Latvia’s Eurovision 2026 entry “Ēnā” will remain in Latvian, despite ongoing discussions about potential changes ahead of the Contest in Vienna. Atvara confirmed in an interview with LSM that she has no plans to switch to English, although her team is exploring possible improvements to the song.
No English version planned
Atvara emphasised that the language of the song will not change, stating that she is determined to perform entirely in Latvian.
“We’re trying to figure out if there are any improvements, but I definitely won’t sing in English.”
The singer added that the goal of any revamp would be to make the message of the song clearer to international audiences while preserving its identity.
Atvara added about her performance:
“The message, I see, is clear, but at the same time, what I can outline is that we are thinking about versions, how to perhaps improve it further, so that people really have a clear understanding of what I am singing about.”
Latvia’s Eurovision Journey
Latvia made their Eurovision debut in 2000, finishing 3rd with “My Star” by Brainstorm. They have performed at every contest since and managed to win in 2002. Marie N sang “I Wanna,” scoring 176 points and bringing Eurovision to Riga in the process. Latvia also managed to finish in the top 10 two more times, in 2005 and 2015.
Latvia’s most recent entry on the Eurovision stage was Tautumeitas, who performed “Bur man laimi”. Latvia successfully qualified from the second semi-final for the second year in a row. In the Grand Final, Tautumeitas finished in 13th place with 158 points. Of these points, 42 were from the public vote, and 116 were from the national juries.
