🇦🇿 İTV responds to criticism over Eurovision 2026 song

Azerbaijani broadcaster İTV has defended its selection of JIVA and the song “Just Go” for the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 following criticism from fans after the entry was revealed.

Selection process

According to İTV, three artists reached the final shortlist, including JIVA. The final decision was taken based on expert opinions and the results of a specially formed focus group. The broadcaster also explained that the return of jury voting in the Eurovision semi-finals played an important role in the decision. As a result, strong live vocals and stage performance ability were key factors in selecting the entry.

Response to AI claims

İTV also addressed rumours circulating online that the song had been created using artificial intelligence. In its statement, the broadcaster rejected the claims, stating that “Just Go” is an original work created through professional songwriting and creative work. The broadcaster reaffirmed its full support for JIVA as Azerbaijan’s representative at Eurovision 2026

Eldar Gasimov leaves the Azerbaijani delegation

Eldar Gasimov made it clear through his social media that he has left this year’s delegation. It should be noted that in recent years, Gasimov had been working as a music producer for the delegation. Following his recent statement, it became clear that he is no longer part of the team.

Azerbaijan’s Eurovision journey

Azerbaijan is a powerhouse in Eurovision, first debuting in 2008 with the song “Day After Day” by Elnur & Samir, finishing 8th. The country has since gone on to achieve five top-5 performances, including one win in 2011. Azerbaijan has an impressive qualification record, only failing to make the final in 2018, 2023, and 2024.

Azerbaijan internally selected Mamagama to represent them in 2025 with the song “Run With U”; they scored seven points in the first semifinal, placing fifteenth and missing out on the Grand Final for a third year in a row.
