With preparation for the the 2027 edition of the Eurovison Song Contest underway, Slovenia’s RTVSLO have announced that they plan to meet with the EBU to discuss concerns relating to its future participation.
Participation still undecided
Slovenia have yet to announce their intentions around participation in Burgas following their decision to boycott the 2026 edition of the contest due to Israel’s involvement. Executives from RTVSLO will meet with the EBU to discuss the contest’s adoption of the controversial changes to the contest last year that attempted to mitigate issues multiple broadcasters has with the running of the contest and Israel’s inclusion.
Speculation over Slovenia’s participation comes as other broadcasters who boycotted last year’s contest have discussed next year’s contest. Of the other four boycotting countries, Ireland have stated they will not return; The Netherlands have opted to return to the contest; Spain’s RTVE’s executives are recommending a further boycott; and Iceland have yet to reveal plans.
Slovenia’s Eurovision Journey
In 1993, Slovenia made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest with 1X Band and the song “Tih deževen dan”, which placed 22nd. Since their debut, they have participated 28 times – of which, 16 were where they qualified for the Grand Final.
Slovenia’s recent Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Klemen, who sang “How Much Time Do We Have Left”. Performing at the first semi-final, Klemen failed to qualify, placing thirteenth with 23 points from the televote.
