North Macedonia’s broadcaster MRT has shared its aim to participate at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2027. This comes ahead of the final of this year’s Junior Contest in Malta.

MRT outlines plans

MRT revealed its intentions to participate following the publication of its draft programming plan for 2027, as part of the channel’s commitment to transparency with the public. Within the plan, plans for Junior Eurovision 2027 are mentioned for MRT5 – the broadcaster’s main children’s channel. There, it says that MRT is confirming its intention to compete at the 2027 edition of the Contest.

However, this is not the only time Junior Eurovision 2027 has been mentioned in a MRT council meeting. In December 2025, it was announced in a Programme Council meeting that MRT was looking to host Junior Eurovision 2027. This came after North Macedonia had bid to host Junior Eurovision 2026, but eventually lost to Maltese broadcaster PBS. It is unclear whether the EBU is still in negotiations with MRT regarding the 2027 Contest.

North Macedonia’s Junior Eurovision journey

North Macedonia debuted in Junior Eurovision in the first edition of the Contest in Copenhagen in 2003. Their first entry was “Ti ne me poznavaš”, performed by Marija and Viktorija. At the close of voting, the duo finished in 12th place, earning 19 points. Since then, North Macedonia have taken part in 18 editions of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. The only years which did not feature a North Macedonian artist were in 2012, 2014 and 2020; the last due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2025, Nela Mančeska represented North Macedonia with the song “Miracle”. She scored a total of 141 points, receiving 92 from the jury and 49 from the online vote, for an overall seventh place out of eighteen.
