After confirming its participation for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, Cyprus has revealed its act for Burgas, becoming the first country to choose its singer for the competition. Cypriot broadcaster CyBC confirmed that George Perris will represent the nation in Bulgaria.
Cyprus continues tradition
CyBC revealed the news during its “Omorfi Mera” morning TV show on Wednesday (October 4th). It was also revealed that his song will be chosen through a national selection that will be televised on CyBC, with a submissions window now open for interested songwriters to enter their songs. Submissions will be open until December 13th and can be uploaded to CyBC’s dedicated Eurovision portal.
After this, a shortlisted set of songs will be premiered on a standalone show, with a jury and public televote deciding which song George will sing at Eurovision in Burgas. The exact date of the selection has not yet been revealed.
Cyprus is traditionally one of the first countries to reveal its act for Eurovision, with Theo Evan and Antigoni both being the first official act revealed for their respective years in the competition. With George’s selection, this tradition has been continued. There had been claims that Cyprus was investigating a possible return to a national selection for the first time since 2015, which has now been confimed by the broadcaster.
Cyprus’ Eurovision journey
The Mediterranean nation made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981, where Island participated with the song โMonikaโ and place 6th. Since then, Cyprus has participated 40 times (33 of which where they qualified for the Grand Final).
For 2026, CyBC internally selected Antigoni to represent them in Basel with the song โJALLAโ. Competing in the second semi-final, Cyprus managed to qualify for the final, ultimately finishing in 19th place with 75 points. Thirty-four points came from the televote, while the remaining 41 came from the jury.
