Four months since their participation at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, another country is gearing up to reveal what its plans would be for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. San Marino’s broadcaster SMRTV has revealed that the plans for its 14th participation in Italy, will be revealed on September 22 at 11:30CEST.

A special dedicated television program to reveal plans

Along with the announcement, they also revealed that a special dedicated television program would be used, to reveal its upcoming plans. Eurovision stars and guests would be making an appearance. At the time of writing, no further details have been announced.

With regards to the selection of its Eurovision 2022 representative, the San Marinese Government revealed that the “Una Voce Per San Marino” festival will be used to select the next Eurovision representative, and this will commence in December and will continue for the first months of 2022.

How has San Marino selected its Eurovision representative

Since its participation, San Marino has mainly used Internal Selection in order to select its Eurovision representative. However, they did use a National Final in 2018, where 1 in 360 was used to select its Eurovision representative, which was open worldwide. Jessika alongside Jenifer Brening represented San Marino in Lisbon with “Who We Are” which placed 17th in the Semi-Final.

San Marino’s Eurovision Journey

As one of the smallest countries in Europe, San Marino made its debut in the competition in 2008 with Miodio and the song “Complice”. Since then they have participated in the competition 11 times (3 of which where they qualified for the Grand Final), and their best result was in 2019, with Serhat and “Say Na Na Na”.

Their recent participation saw them being represented by Senhit (who represented them in 2011, and was set to represent them in 2020), with the song “Adrenalina”. On her performance in Rotterdam, she was joined by American rapper Flo-Rida, where San Marino qualified consecutively qualified for the Grand Final, for a second time. Overall, San Marino placed 22nd Overall, receiving 50 points from the Jury and Televoters.
