🇭🇷 HRT extends submission window for Dora 2022

Croatian broadcaster HRT has announced that they are extending their submission window for Dora 2022. Applications for the Croation National Final for Eurovision can now be sent in until December 12. The submission window opened October 27th, and was originally planned to close November 25.

What we know about Dora 2022

HRT has stated in the announcement that no other changes are being made to the selection rules or process. This means that of all submitted songs, 14 will be given the chance to perform at Dora. Entries can apply through the HRT website. All submitted songs have to be sung by Croatian-based artists, although the songwriters are allowed to hail from elsewhere. The lyrics have to be in Croatian, English, Italian, or French. The winning song will be decided through a combined jury and televote. The chosen entry will not be revamped, with only minor changes sanctioned by HRT being allowed. Dora 2022 is still set to take place in February 2022 and will be broadcast live on tv and on HRT’s website.

Croatia in Eurovision

Croatia has been a part of the Eurovision family since 1961, as part of Yugoslavia. Ten Croatian artists went on to represent Yugoslavia in the Contest – the most famous of which being Riva, who gave Yugoslavia its only win in 1989. The 1990 Contest was held in Zagreb as a tribute to their Croatian heritage.

Croatia debuted in the Contest as an independent nation in 1993 with the band Put and their song “Don’t Ever Cry”. Since then, Croatia has gone on to score as high as 4th place in 1996 and 1999. Last year, Albina won Dora 2021 to represent Croatia at the Contest in Rotterdam with her song “Tick-Tock”. However, despite finishing 10th in both the jury and the televote, Albina failed to qualify for the final, finishing with a total of 110 points.
