As we get closer to the announcement of artists for Melodi Grand Prix 2022, ESCNorge reports that 21 songs will compete in next year’s Melodi Grand Prix. The winner of Melodi Grand Prix 2022 will go on to represent Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 202, with the shows commencing on the 15th of January 2022 and the final taking place on the 19th of February.

All of this year’s shows will take place at the H3 arena at Forbes. Tickets for the Semi-Finals and Second Chance went on 26th November 2021 and can be bought at eventim.no

Melodi Grand Prix 2022

As with the 2020 and 2021’s editions of the Melodi Grand Prix, there will be 4 heats with 4 competing songs in each heat. Also similar to recent editions there will be 5 songs prequalified for the Melodi Grand Prix Final on 19th February 2022. Like 2021’s edition of Melodi Grand Prix, there will also be a wildcard round consisting of songs that fail to win their heats, this will take place on the 12th February 2022.

The last two editions have been solely decided by public voting, however, it was announced back in October that there is a potential that there will be a jury vote in Melodi Grand Prix 2022.

The dates for Melodi Grand Prix 2022 are as follows:

  • First Heat: 15th January 2022
  • Second Heat: 22nd January 2022
  • Third Heat: 29th January 2022
  • Forth Heat: 5th February 2022
  • Last Chance Round: 12th February 2022
  • Melodi Grand Prix 2022 Grand Final: 19th February 2022

Norway’s Eurovision Journey

The Scandinavian nation made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1960, with Nora Brockstedt and the song β€œVoi Voi”, which placed 4th. Since their debut, they have participated 59 times, of which 56, where Norway was in the Grand Final. In addition, Norway has won the competition three times (1985, 1995, and 2009).

Norway’s latest Eurovision participation, saw them being represented by TIX with the song β€œFallen Angel”. During their participation, Norway managed to qualify for the Grand Final, where TIX managed to place 18th, where they managed to receive 75 points from the Jury and Televoters.
