Finland’s national broadcaster YLE revealed that the artists competing in their national selection UMK will be unveiled on Wednesday, January 12th.
Dropping hints
YLE has carefully been revealing bits of information for fans to guess who will be taking part. In total, seven artists will compete in Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu, which has been used as Finland’s national selection since 2012.
The names of the seven artists will be revealed as part of a press conference organized by YLE. All seven artists will be revealed on January 12th at 1 pm EET, with fans able to watch the conference via a stream on YLE’s website. Following this, each of the seven artists will have their entries unveiled day by day. All the preparations will culminate in the final of UMK on February 26th. The winner of the show will go on to represent Finland in Turin.
Finland’s Eurovision Journey
Finland debuted in the 1961 Eurovision Song Contest, finishing 10th with Laila Kunnunen’s “Valoa ikkunassa.” Since then they have competed 54 times, and appeared in the final 46 times. Finland has finished in the top 10 an impressive 13 times. They have won the contest once in 2006, with Lordi’s performance of “Hard Rock Hallelujah” getting 292 points. Finland’s most recent entry was “Dark Side” by Blind Channel. In the Final, they gained a total of 301 points, earning them 6th place.
