🇸🇪 Sweden to participate in the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest

After their successful participation in Turin with Cornelia Jakobs, Sweden will once again be participating in the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, with Melodifestivalen being used once again to select their representative.

Submissions for Melodifestivalen 2023 to open on August 26

In addition to the confirmation of their participation in Italy, SVT has revealed that submissions for the 63rd edition of Melodifestivalen will open at 09:00CET on the 26th of August, and will close at 11:59 on September 16. The rules for the 2023 edition of Melodifestivalen can be found here (in Swedish). SVT is set to reveal the competing artists by November/December 2022.

Sweden’s Eurovision Journey

In 1958, Sweden made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest, with Alice Babs representing them with the song “Lilla stjärna” which placed fourth. Since its debut, the Scandinavian nation has managed to win six times (1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, and 2015).

In 2022, Sweden was represented by Cornelia Jakobs, who won the 61st edition of the competition and competed with the song “Hold Me Closer”, which managed to qualify for the Grand Final and placed 4th with 438 points from the jury and televoters.
