🇸🇪 Jesper Rönndahl to co-host Melodifestivalen 2023?

After receiving the highest amount of submissions in 10 years, and whilst we await for the participating contestants to be revealed, we are now looking into the finer details of the competition. Local media is now reporting that Jesper Rönndahl is one of the two hosts for Melodifestivalen 2023 alongside Farah Abadi.

Swedish Newspaper Aftonbladet reports that Jesper Rönndahl will be one of the hosts of the upcoming edition of the competition. Previously, the publication also reported that Jesper will be joined by Farah Abadi, who was involved in this year’s competition. At the time of writing, SVT is yet to comment on the reports by Aftonbladet.

Jesper Rönndahl is a pretty big comedian, mostly known for the political comedy series “Dips”, and especially for the satire news show ‘Svenska Nyheter’ (the Swedish version of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver) that he hosted from its inception in 2018 until mid-2019.

What we know about Melodifestivalen 2023

At the moment of writing, the host(s) of Melodifestivalen 2023 is yet to be confirmed. However, the shows will take place as follows:

  • Heat 1 – February 4 –  Gothenburg – Scandinavium
  • Heat 2 – February 11 – Linköping – Saab Arena
  • Heat 3 – February 18 – Lidköping – Sparbanken Arena
  • Heat 4 – February 25 – Malmö – Malmö Arena
  • Second Chance – March 4 – Örnsköldsvik – Hägglunds Arena
  • Final – March 11 – Stockholm – Friends Arena

Tickets for the Melodifestivalen 2023 shows will be released on November 1, 2022

Sweden’s Eurovision Journey

In 1958, Sweden made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest, with Alice Babs representing them with the song “Lilla stjärna” which placed fourth. Since its debut, the Scandinavian nation has managed to win six times (1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, and 2015).

In 2022, Sweden was represented by Cornelia Jakobs, who won the 61st edition of the competition and competed with the song “Hold Me Closer”, which managed to qualify for the Grand Final and placed 4th with 438 points from the jury and televoters.
