As artists continue to prepare for their national selections, Rosie had the chance to speak to Moisei. Moisei will be taking part in Vidbir with his song “I’m Not Alone” on December 17th. Together with Rosie, he talks about the importance of the violin, his background in the army and his love for Ukraine in Eurovision.
Hi Moisei, thank you so much for taking the time to talk to us. You are competing in Vidbir with your song “Iโm Not Alone”. What was the process of creating the song like?
Greetings! Thank you for the invitation. While serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, I wrote my first original song in a small bunker! This song appeared when I was experiencing certain emotions and a difficult moral state. Almost all the parts in the song were written at once.
“Iโm Not Alone” stands out from the field in Vidbir thanks to your beautiful violin sections. Could you tell us a little bit about your journey as a violin player?
At the age of 13, I decided that I had to get some skill and play the guitar. I persuaded my mother to take me to music school. There, I was convinced that the violin is cooler than the guitar and that it is a very difficult and rare skill and I agreed, plunging into this business with my head! Already at the age of 15, playing in restaurants and earning my first money, I realized how much I fell in love with music, namely its creation.
You have recently gone viral on social media through videos of you playing your violin on the front line in Ukraine. What are your thoughts about the role music can play at such a difficult time in your country?
I was very happy to learn that my videos inspire people, cheer them up and calm them down, although first of all I do it for my brothers in the service. So, I am grateful to God that he uses me and gives me such opportunities to work for the victory of our country not only physically but also spiritually! Music always inspires and gives the opportunity to raise morale.
Many of your previous performances are covers of worldwide hits. Which artists inspire you from Ukraine and around the world?
I am inspired by music that reflects my inner state! Separately for myself, I listen to Coldplay and Stromae.
You recently performed a duet with Pianoboy, which was brilliant! Who would be your dream duet partner?
Thank you!!! It was my dream to play with Pianoboy! Abroad, I dream to play with Chris Martin and Stromae.
How did it feel watching Ukraine win Eurovision in 2022? Were you a fan of the contest before?
Oh, I always watched this contest! I felt proud of our country and made a cover video in support of our participant! I am proud of us.
Can you tell us anything about what we might expect to see in your performance on Vidbir?
So, I can’t tell you anything yet. You will see everything later!
Finally, do you have a message or anything that you would like to share with your fans over at That Eurovision Site?
The Lord gave me the opportunity to show my creativity to people, this is what I dreamed of since childhood! I am happy to sing and play for you! I want everyone to feel everything that I put into this music. I thank everyone who supports and does not forget Ukraine, helps and prays for it every day! You are strong, free and beautiful people! Glory to Ukraine!
