Latvia is starting their preparations for Supernova 2023. As artists prep for national final to start on Saturday 4th February, Jazzi speaks to Markus Riva , who are vying to represent Latvia in Liverpool with their song “Forever”.

Together Markus and Jazzi talk about the meaning behind their song “Forever.”, his past experiences with Supernova, as well as talking about their Eurovision memories from Latvia, and the emotions leading up to their participation in the Latvian selection.

About Markus Riva

Markus Riva is a singer and presenter from Riga in Latvia. In the Eurovision world Markus has been known for quite a while, as he has taken part in the last 8 editions of the Latvian selection. His first attempt being with the song “Lights On”. Since 2017 Markus has been hosting the Latvian edition of The X Factor. A lover of languages Markus has released music in a variety of different languages including English, Ukrainian and Russian, and even hinted at releasing music in Spanish in our interview.

Latvia’s Eurovision Journey

Latvia made their Eurovision debut in 2000, finishing 3rd with “My Star” by Brainstorm. They have performed at every contest since and managed to win in 2002. Marie N sang “I Wanna,” scoring 176 points and bringing Eurovision to Riga in the process. Latvia also managed to finish in the top 10 two more times, in 2005 and 2015. Latvia’s most recent entry on the Eurovision stage was Citi Zeni, who performed “Eat Your Salad”. The song failed to qualify from the semi-final, finishing 14th with 55 points.
