🇦🇹 Austria Eurovision Artist to be announced this week

A report from Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung has revealed that Austria will reveal its Eurovision artist for 2024 sometime this week.

Austria’s Preparations

While it was previously reported that the artist would be revealed “no later than December”, it appears that those plans have now changed. The article details the recent selection process for Austria’s artist selection. 14 possible acts recently performed at ORF’s headquarters for a 25-person jury. This jury includes a combination of music experts and six Eurovision fanclubs. A favourite has reportedly emerged, but the final say is with program director Stefanie Groiss-Horowitz. As of time of writing, it is unclear whether the entry will be revealed alongside the artist.

Austria’s Eurovision History

In 1957, Austria made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest, where Bob Martin represented the landlocked nation with the song “Wohin, kleines Pony?”. At the close of voting, it managed to place 10th overall. Since their debut, Austria has participated 55 times (being in the final 48 times), and has won the competition on two occasions in 1966 and 2014.

For 2023, Teya and Salena were internally selected to represent Austria with their song “Who the Hell is Edgar?”. In Liverpool, the duo qualified for the final, where they went on to finish in 15th place with 120 points. Of these, 16 points came from the televote and another 104 came from the juries.
