As the dust settles after the conclusion of San Remo 2024 last night, winner Angelina Mango has today confirmed that she will be participating for Italy in Eurovision in Malmö.

“Honoured”

During her winner’s press conference, Angelina was asked if she would continue the tradition of the San Remo champion representing Italy at Eurovision, and she confirmed that she would. The winner of San Remo has gone to Eurovision for Italy every year since 2016. In an early interview following her victory, she also confirmed her excitement to take part in the contest, saying that:

It feels surreal, I’m so honoured to represent Italy

Italy’s Eurovision History

Italy has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest since the beginning and has always been considered a powerhouse. The country has won the contest on three occasions in 1964, 1990 and 2021. Italy withdrew after 1997, returning in 2011 with Raphael Gualazzi who sang ‘Madness Of Love’. Raphael placed second in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest after scoring 189 points.

Italy’s most recent entry in 2023 was “Due Vite” by Marco Mengoni. At the close of voting, Italy scored 350 points in the Eurovision 2023 Grand Final, placing 4th. Of these, 176 points came from the juries, whilst the remaining 174 points came from the televote.
