Azerbaijan’s İctimai Television has revealed that it will be represented by Mamagama at the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, with the song ‘Shine.
Mamagama to Basel
Prior to the announcement of Mamagama İTV had hinted that they would do something next before seen by Azerbaijan at Eurovision. This is evident with Mamagama being the first group to represent the country. The trio formed back in 2021 and consist of three members; Asəf, Hass, and Arif.
Earlier it this month İTV revealed that they were going to announce the Azerbaijani act much earlier this year; with the Caucasian country typically being one of the last to do so. This year’s act will sing one of the 154 songs that were submitted to İTV; with that number having been narrowed down to a final 12. The internal selection this year was overseen by the Azerbaijani creative director, and former Eurovision winner Eldar Gasimov. The expert panel that chose Mamagama consisted of Elshad Khose (a famour rapper), Dihaj (2017 entrant), Aysel (2009 entrant), Heydar (a DJ and producer), Faig Sujaddinov (renowned composer), Rain Sultanov (renowned musician), DJ Fateh (director of public radio), and the head of İTV Balakishi Gasimov.
At present we do not have the song that will represent Azerbaijan, with that expected to be revealed closer to the deadline along with most internally selected entries. What we do know is that it will be called ‘Shine’.
Azerbaijan’s Eurovision Journey
Azerbaijan is a powerhouse in Eurovision, first debuting in 2008 with the song “Day After Day” by Elnur & Samir, finishing 8th. The country has since gone on to achieve five top-5 performances, including one win in 2011. Azerbaijan has an impressive qualification record, only failing to make the final in 2018, 2023, and 2024.
Azerbaijan internally selected Fahree and Ilkin Dolatov to represent them in 2024 with the song “Özünlə apar”; they scored eleven points in the first semifinal, placing fourteenth and missing out on the Grand Final for a second year in a row.
