🇵🇹 NAPA: “We’re excited to show everyone what we’ve been cooking”

NAPA and Rory chatting in Basel ahead of their semi-final performance in Eurovision

Ahead of their performance at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Rory was able to have a chat with NAPA. The band is representing Portugal at the Contest with their song “Deslocado”.

Together, Rory and NAPA chat about their first rehearsal and how they felt stepping onto the Eurovision stage. They also talk about the pride in the international reach of their song, their love for Cristiano Ronaldo and their future music plans. The group also gives us an update on their Geoguessr skills and how to define what the perfect couch is!

Who are NAPA?

NAPA are a five-piece band from the Portuguese archipelago of Madeira. The band is made up of Diogo Góis, Francisco Sousa, João Guilherme Gomes, João Lourenço Gomes and João Rodrigues. NAPA first started as Men on the Couch, covering songs from their grandmother’s basement. In 2019, the band released their first EP, which had been crowdfunded. Since then, the band have released another album in May of 2023, changing their band’s name to NAPA.

Their song for Eurovision – “Deslocado” – was written by NAPA themselves, alongside André Santos.

Portugal’s Eurovision journey

Portugal debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest with António Calvário’s “Oração” in 1964. Since then, Portugal has participated in the competition 55 times – appearing the final 46 times. Their only win in the competition came in 2017 with Salvador Sobral, performing his heart-wrenching song “Amar Pelos Dois”.

Portugal’s most recent participation was with iolanda with the song “Grito”. iolanda managed to qualify for the Grand Final and once there, she finished in 10th place. She received a total of 152 points, of which 139 points came from the jury and 13 points came the televote.
