KAJ, representing Sweden - which has confirmed Eurovision 2026 participation

The national broadcaster of Sweden – SVT – has confirmed its intention to participate at next year’s Eurovision Song Contest. This comes after their impressive fourth-place finish in Basel with KAJ.

Sweden ironing out details

In an email sent to That Eurovision Site, a spokesperson for SVT confirmed that Sweden is intending to take part at Eurovision 2026. The spokesperson gave no further details surrounding how the act will be selected.

Traditionally, Sweden uses its well-established national final Melodifestivalen to decide its entry for Eurovision. The show remains one of the most popular entertainment programmes in Sweden – with millions tuning in each week to vote for the winner. In 2025, KAJ won Melodifestivalen – beating out 2015 winner Måns Zelmerlöw. The final of the show brought in 3 million viewers across Sweden and around the world.

Sweden’s Eurovision journey

In 1958, Sweden made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest, with Alice Babs representing them with the song “Lilla stjärna” which placed fourth. Since their debut, the Scandinavian nation has managed to win seven times (1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, 2015 and 2023).

In 2025, Sweden were represented by Finnish group KAJ, singing “Bara bada bastu”. At the close of voting in the grand final, they had received 321 points, finishing in 4th place. 126 points were received by the juries, while the trio received 195 points by televoters.
