Lithuania Introduces Changes to Eurovizija.LT 2026

Lithuania’s national selection, Eurovizija.LT, will see a number of key changes in 2026, as broadcaster LRT looks to modernise the format and give more power to the audience.

What’s new in Eurovizija.LT 2026

According to LRT, the following updates will shape the next edition of Eurovizija.LT:

  • No superfinal – the winner will now be decided directly in the final.
  • Televoting breaks ties – in the event of a tie, the public vote will take precedence over the jury.
  • App voting introduced – alongside SMS, fans will now be able to vote through a mobile app.
  • Online wildcard round – acts finishing 3rd in the semi-finals will compete in an online round, with the winner advancing to the grand final.

Towards a more audience-driven show

LRT explained that the changes are designed to make the competition more dynamic and accessible, while reinforcing the role of the public in deciding Lithuania’s Eurovision entry.

The broadcaster hopes the introduction of app voting and the online wildcard round will particularly encourage participation from younger viewers and create more engagement with the selection process.

Lithuania’s Eurovision journey

The Baltic nation made its debut at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994, where Ovidijus Vyšniauskas represented them with the song “Lopšinė mylimai”, which placed 25th. Since then, Lithuania has participated 22 times and made the Grand Final 15 times. LT United gave Lithuania its best-ever Eurovision result back in 2006, when the country placed 6th.

In 2025, Katarsis represented Lithuania, participating with the song “Tavo akys”. Performing in the second semi-final, Katarsis qualified for the final in sixth place. In the Grand Final, Lithuania finished in 16th place overall, scoring 96 points – 34 points came from the juries, while another 62 points came from the televote.
