Latvia’s broadcaster LTV has confirmed their intention to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2027, due to be held in Bulgaria. The Latvian broadcaster also confirmed a return of the country’s Supernova national selection format.
Latvia confirms Supernova
Latvian broadcaster LTV will partake in the Eurovision Song Contest 2027, due to be held in Bulgaria. The country’s Supernova selection show will return, with submissions opening for Supernova on August 1st. The Supernova final will take place on February 6th at the Xiaomi Arena. This is the first time the national final will be held outside of LTV’s TV studios. Fans will be able to attend the final, with ticket information coming soon here.

It will be a real music festival with magnificent surprises and special musical guests. For artists, it is a great opportunity to perform their song in front of such a large audience, and for spectators in the arena – to see behind the scenes of the show and feel the energy of music in person.
The Supernova final will be split into two rounds. The first round, a 50/50 televote & jury split will decide a top 3 who will progress to the superfinal. The winner of the superfinal will be determined by televote only. Submissions for the Latvian Eurovision selection show open on August 1st and close on October 1st.
The usual Eurovision rules apply, concerning maximum performers on stage (6) and that songs must not have been published or performed before September 1st 2026. Performers must be at least 18 years of age by April 15 next year. Non-Latvian citizens are allowed to partake in the songwriting, production and composing of submitted tracks, but must not make up more than 49% of the overall credits. The use of AI to generate songs, in whole or in part, is explicitly banned in the Supernova submission rules.
We will find out in November which participants have been selected by the anonymous jury at LTV and will make the televised stages of the competition.
Latvia’s Eurovision journey
Latvia made their Eurovision debut in 2000, finishing 3rd with โMy Starโ by Brainstorm. They have performed at every contest since and managed to win in 2002. Marie N sang โI Wanna,โ scoring 176 points and bringing Eurovision to Riga in the process. Latvia also managed to finish in the top 10 two more times, in 2005 and 2015.
With the exception of 2021, where Samanta Tina was internally reselected following the cancellation of the 2020 contest, Latvia has always used a national final to select its Eurovision representative. Since 2015, this has been “Supernova”. In recent years, Supernova has usually been made up of three shows, two semi-finals and a final. In recent years, around 12 artists have taken part in each of the semi-finals, with 5 artists advancing to the final from each semi. The final results of Supernova consist of a combination of a jury vote and the televote, at a 50-50% split.
Latviaโs most recent entry on the Eurovision stage was Atvara, who won Supernova with her song โฤnฤโ. Latvia failed qualified from the second semi-final, with Atvara earning a total of 49 points, finishing in 13th place. Of these, 28 points came from the jury, while the remaining 21 came from the televote.
