Finland’s national broadcaster, Yle, has opened the submissions window for UMK 2027. The selection will be used to select the country’s Eurovision 2027 representative, due to take place in Burgas.

Submissions open for UMK 2027

Finnish broadcaster YLE has today opened the submissions for the country’s national final selection show Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2027. The show will once again be used to select the nation’s Eurovision representative, at the Contest due to be held in Burgas.

Tapio Hakanen, UMK’s professional jury chair says:

Last season’s UMK and Eurovision were a great success both in terms of the songs’ achievements and musical diversity. Hopefully LiekinheitinTakatukkaLululai and other great UMK songs have inspired Finnish music creators to make distinctive, creative and diverse songs with which they can now apply for the upcoming season.

The 16th edition of UMK will one again be held at Tampere’s Nokia Arena on February 20, 2027. The selected artists and songs will be announced by YLE in January.

Applications to UMK can be made through a form available at yle.fi/umk. The site also contains the full competition rules in Finnish, Swedish and English. Applicants must be 18 years of age, and at least one songwriter and one lead singer must have Finnish citizenship or permanent residency in the country. Like the Eurovision rules, songs must be original and be no longer than 3 minutes in length.

Lead singers may enter up to three songs to UMK 2027. Band members may enter multiple songs. The submission period opened August 17th and closes on August 23rd at 11:59 PM. Applicants will be contacted by YLE at the end of October.
