Burgas Eurovision preparation begins

Bulgarian broadcaster BNT is reporting that the preparations for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 have already begun in the host city of Burgas. The city is making changes to the area around the Arena Burgas will which host the 71st edition of the Contest in May. The city has also began the construction work on the site where the press centre will be built, metres from the venue itself.

The surrounding area of the Arena Burgas, the Burgas Sea Garden, Sea Station and the City Centre itself are some of the locations that will be used. Hotels across Burgas are already seeing exceptional levels of inquiry for accommodation during the week of Eurovision. Security for those in attendance has already been considered, with Dimitar Nikolov, Mayor of the Burgas Municipality confirming:

More than 5,000 to 6,000 cameras monitor the movement of tourists. With the new, modern software that we will now install additionally, we will be able to manage this large volume of traffic and maintain control.

Arena Burgas begins construction work

As for Arena Burgas itself, the venue has a total floor area of around 50,000 square metres. The arena hall can currently accommodate up to 14,000 people, with 7,000 seats. The arena is used to hosting large sporting events, such as the recent athletics championships.

Miroslav Zhekov, head of the Construction Department at Burgas Municipality said of the arena plans:

Once the stage is installed, the areas remaining around the stage will also be filled with standing spectators. In accordance with the requirements of the European Broadcasting Union, we have developed two layouts. The first provides for the entire arena floor to be occupied by standing spectators, with designated areas for the main stage, the secondary stage, and the so-called โ€˜green roomโ€˜. We also have an option in which the arena floor is fitted with more seats, using so-called mobile stands.
