Luxembourgish broadcaster RTL has announced an adaptation to the way its submissions window will work and how the selected songs will be chosen for its national final. This marks the first major change to the format of the Luxembourg Song Contest since its inception in 2024.
Two-track selection method returns to RTL selection method
In a press release, RTL confirmed that it will return to its previously used method of selecting artists and songs for the national selection. This adapted phase will kick into action after the song submission period ends on October 29th.
According to RTL, artists who progress to the next stage of the audition process will be chosen separately, while submitted songs are listened to until the end of the submissions window. After this, a specific workshop will be held in November, in which the selected artists will get to hear the pre-selected songs and develop them to better fit their style as musicians.
In a statement, RTL said:
This approach allows songwriters from around the world to submit songs even if they do not already have a Luxembourgish performer attached to the project. Songs and artists will be matched during the pairing process, creating opportunities for new collaborations and creative partnerships. A panel of music industry and Eurovision experts will evaluate all submissions and identify the songs with the strongest artistic and competitive potential.
RTL also reiterated its desires for the quality of songs it wants to compete in the Luxembourg Song Contest 2027. The broadcaster is looking for songs that have a “strong artistic identity” and that have both “international appeal” and “genuine Eurovision potential”. Entries are also being sought in Luxembourgish, but songs in any language can be submitted.
Interested singers have until September 20th to register themselves, while songs can be submitted for another month after. Anyone who may have a song worth submitting can follow the link here. The Luxembourg Song Contest will be held on Janaury 30th in the Rockhal in Belval.
Luxembourg’s Eurovision journey
Luxembourg first made its debut in the first edition of the Contest in 1956, with their first entries being “Ne crois pas” and “Les Amants de minuit”, both performed by Michรจle Arnaud. Since the first Contest, Luxembourg has competed a total of 38 times. Their best result was finishing in 1st place five times – in 1961, 1965, 1972, 1973 and 1983 respectively.
Luxembourg’s latest participation came in Vienna in 2026. Eva Marija represented Luxembourg with the song “Mother Nature”. She participated in the Second Semi-Final but failed to qualify for the final, earning 60 points – 34 points coming from the televote, with the remaining 26 coming from the jury.
