🇧🇬 €20million allocated to cover hosting cost of Eurovision 2027

A budget of €20million has been allocated by the Bulgarian Government to cover the cost of hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 in Burgas.

Bulgarian Government allocates €20million for ESC hosting

According to Bulgaria’s Deputy Prime Minister Ivo Hristov, the state will play a full role in the preparations of hosting Eurovision next year in Burgas. Hristov, who leads the organising committee for the 2027 Contest in Bulgaria, joined the Mayor of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov for a briefing following initial organising committee meetings.

The Deputy Prime Minister confirmed that €15 million of the funding acts as the guarantee that must be deposited before the organisational process can begin. The remaining €5million will cover operational requirements. The Deputy Prime Minister said his role as chairman of the committee will be to provide institutional support to the city of Burgas, as well as supporting broadcaster BNT in everything they need for organising the event. Speaking at the press briefing following initial meetings, Hristov said:

Funds for Eurovision will also be included in the 2027 budget, but the budget is due to be considered in the autumn of this year.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, this funding will cover organisational needs related to infrastructure, transport, accommodation and branding Bulgaria as a tourist destination. He added:

We in the government see Eurovision as an opportunity to brand Bulgaria, because we have everything to offer – the full range of tourism services. We offer delicious food, mountains, ski resorts, the sea and cultural and historical tourism, but we are still not as recognisable in the tourism market as Italy and Greece.

The story of Eurovision 2027 so far

The journey to the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest kicked off immediately following DARA’s win in Vienna, when Bulgaria’s BNT accepted the rights to host the 71st edition of the contest. Four cities submitted a bid to host Eurovision 2027, with Burgas, Plovdiv, Sofia and Varna all vying to host. Burgas and Sofia were shortlisted, with Burgas winning the right to host the 71st edition of the competition earlier this year.

As for the organisation of the competition, the Bulgarian government stepped in to create an organising committee, which was revealed at the end of May 2026. The Contest will be held in the city of Burgas on Saturday May 15th. The two Semi-Finals will be held on Tuesday May 11th and Thursday May 13th.
