Ukrainian broadcaster Suspilne has confirmed its intention to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2027, due to be held in Bulgaria. This will be the country’s 22nd appearance in the contest.
Vidbir to select representative for Burgas
The news of Ukraine’s participation in Burgas was revealed via the delegation’s official social media accounts, with the broadcaster confirming that Vidbir will once again be used to select their representative, with submissions set to open tomorrow, September 15.
Ukraine’s Eurovision journey
Ukraine is one of the most successful countries to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest. The country has scored nine top-five placements, with an extra four top-ten finishes. Ukraine won the Contest three times – in 2004, 2016 and 2022 respectively. Ukraine made history for being the first ex-Soviet country to win the Contest more than once. Ukraine has qualified for every single Eurovision Grand Final that they have entered.
Informally known as “Vidbir”, Ukraine’s national selection has been around since 2016, when it picked a Eurovision winner – Jamala’s “1944” – right off the bat. It’s a small selection with generally between six to ten entries competing each year, and is traditionally held in February. Vidbir features a three-person jury panel, and last year an online vote as well.
In 2026, LELÉKA won the national selection and represented Ukraine in Vienna with her song “Ridnym”. After maintaining Ukraine’s perfect qualification record from the semi-finals, she finished in 9th place in the Grand Final. She was awarded 221 points – of which 54 points came from the jury, whilst the remaining 167 points came from the televote.
