Austrian Eurovision winner JJ is back with new music! The singer, who won the Contest in Basel in 2025, has today released his latest single “Not Afraid”. The track is JJ’s first new release since performing on home soil in Vienna for the 2026 Contest.
About “Not Afraid”
JJ, who won the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2025, has released his newest single “Not Afraid”. The track is a big, pop-dance record, with a thumping beat and a catchy chorus. The accompanying music video sees JJ surrounded by dancers in an empty warehouse. The singer performs impressive choreography and struts across the room in typical JJ confidence.
The new single from JJ is a different sound to what eurofans may be used to from the singer. The track is poppier, dancier and more electronic than his Eurovision entry, with a beat that makes it hard not to bop along to. “Not Afraid” is JJ’s first new music since the release of the “Into the Unknown” EP, back in May. It’s also the first new release since JJ opened the 2026 Contest in Vienna.
The new single was written by JJ himself, alongside Julia Sundberg, Tomi Saario, Wille Mannila. JJ is currently on tour, with dates across Europe throughout September and early October. More information about tour dates and tickets can be found on JJ’s website.

Who is JJ?
Austrian opera and pop singer JJ was born Johannes Pietsch in Vienna, Austria, in 2001 to an Austrian father and a Filipino mother. He spent much of his childhood in Dubai. Here, he was introduced to both pop, through karaoke parties with his family, and opera, through his father. He moved back to Vienna with his family in 2016.
In 2020, JJ took part in the ninth series of The Voice UK, after missing the deadline for The Voice of Germany. He made it through to the knockout round under the mentorship of coach will.i.am. JJ was unfortunately unable to make the final. The following year, he took part in the fifth season of Austria’s Starmania talent show, making it to the first final of the competition.
JJ’s Eurovision journey
For the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, Austrian broadcaster ORF internally selected JJ to represent the nation. The song he would perform in the Contest, “Wasted Love”, was written by JJ himself, alongside Thomas Turner and previous Austrian Eurovision entrant TEYA. He performed his song “Wasted Love” in the second of the Semi-Finals, and earned a spot in the Saturday Grand Final. At the close of voting in the 2025 Contest, JJ was crowned the winner of the Contest with a total of 436 points. He became the first Eurovision winner of Southeast Asian descent, as well as the first solo Eurovision winner born in the 21st century.
His home city of Vienna hosted the 2026 edition of the Song Contest, and JJ made a grand entrance back to the Eurovision stage at the start of the show, opening the Grand Final with a performance of “The Queen of the Night” and new single “Unknown”. He also performed a remixed version of his winning entry “Wasted Love” during the opening flag ceremony, and presented eventual winner DARA with the trophy at the close of voting.
