We at That Eurovision Site will be ranking the national finals in the lead-up to the inaugural edition of Eurovision Asia. The next national final that the team has taken a closer look at is Sieng Lao: The One, which will take place on the 23rd of September. The National Final will select the entry Thinla will take to Eurovision Asia.
Which entry is our winner?
We ranked the songs taking part in the final, using a 1-3 ranking. 1 being our favourite, 3 being our least favourite song. We then calculated the average of all our rankings.
3rd. Thinla – “Star” (2.25)
2nd. Thinla – “Water” (2.13)
1st. Thinla – “Bae” (1.63)
What did some of our team members have to say about their favourite songs from Sieng Lao: The One?
Nicklas (Star): In a very weak selection, this to me feels like the most sensible choice. Decent enough instrumentals, and the few lines in Lao is a nice touch. The lyrics are simple, but it doesn’t give me as much “did a 12 year old write this?” As Bae does. Will I be putting this on my playlist? Absolutely not, but with a cool staging, choreography and good live vocals I think Thinla might just be able to elevate this enough to get a decent score in Bangkok, if this song ends up being chosen that is.
Molly (Water): “Water” is an incredibly pleasant listening experience. It is a calming experience and Thinla captures the true ‘flow’ of water itself. While rather simple, the easy listening aspect combined with the peaceful nature of the instrumental plays to Thinla’s strengths. The shortness of the song is interesting as I am curious how it will be expanded to the National Final and I can’t wait to see how it does.
Mateo (Bae): I’ve been obsessed with this song since the first time I listened to it. Is it going to win Eurovision Asia? Probably not. But it’s my favourite of the three songs, and the one I think has the most potential. The chorus is insanely catchy, and the instrument that is used gives it a bit of authenticity. The lyrics are not the most sophisticated or deep, but neither are 90% of Eurovision entries. I’ve had “Bae” on repeat for days, and it’s likely to stay in my playlist for a long time (which is always a good sign). If selected and given a good staging, I can easily see this song placing in the top 10 in the televote.
What we know about Eurovision Asia 2026
Early this year, EBU and Voxovation have confirmed the launch of Eurovision Asia, following its initial attempt to launch the format in 2017. The inaugual edition of the competition is set to take place on November 14 in Bangkok, Thailand.
