Finnish broadcaster Yle has announced that 481 submissions have been made to the country’s Contest for New Music (UMK) for the 2027 contest. Yle made tickets for the selection show, as well as the dress rehearsals, available earlier today. Shortly after they went on sale, Yle announced tickets had sold out in record time.
481 submissions to UMK 2027
Finnish broadcaster Yle has revealed that 481 submissions have been entered into the country’s Contest for New Music (UMK) for the 2027 edition. This year’s figure of 481 is close to last year’s record level of submissions. The final seven UMK contestants were selected by a professional jury consisting of music professionals, as well as five public juries, including a diverse group of representatives from various fields.
The artists taking part in the Finnish national selection will be announced January 13th, 2027 in a live broadcast. As is traditional for UMK, the songs will be released one at a time on weekdays, between January 14th and January 22th. Tapio Hakanen, chair of the professional UMK jury and Managing Editor of Music at Yle said:
The increasing interest from artists towards UMK is directly reflected in the fact that our jury’s task becomes more difficult year after year. The quality of this year’s song candidates showed that Finnish songwriting represents the very top in the world.
Speaking about the artists who have been selected to take part, Tapio added:
This season includes a band with a truly international sound and ambitions abroad, a duo with an irresistible club sound that invites you to the dance floor, a dramatic and grandiose song that evokes cinematic imagery, an artist who appeals to a wide variety of audiences, a dark-spoken modern anthem spiced with distorted guitars, an artist presenting a new side of themselves with a fierce dance banger, and a song where a kantele melody grows to epic proportions.
Tickets for UMK 2027 sell out in record time
Tickets for the UMK 2027 evening show, as well as the afternoon dress rehearsal, were made available from today (October 1st) at 9am CET. This year, tickets were available for the standing sections in front of the stage. Broadcaster Yle posted on their social media very shortly after tickets became available that all shows had sold out in record time.
At the time of writing, tickets have sold out for all of the 2027 UMK shows, and it is unclear if more will become available at this time. Further information about tickets can be found at lippu.fi/UMK.
UMK’s Executive Producer, Mikko Silvennoinen says:
UMK strengthens its position year after year as a creator of Finnish music phenomena at home and abroad. The previous season produced several radio hits domestically as well as the overwhelming Eurovision winner favorite according to international betting agencies and industry predictors. The UMK atmosphere is definitely worth experiencing in person – see you in Tampere in February!
