Moldovan broadcaster TRM has been given an extension to decide whether it wants to participate at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Burgas.

Extra time after TRM scandal in May

In a conversation with Polish Eurovision outlet ESCSpot, it was announced by Moldovan Head of Delegation Veronica Cojocaru that TRM has been given more time to confirm if it will take part next May. She added that the decision will be made and the public will be informed “in a few days”.

She explained:

Of course, we have informed the EBU of our need for a longer deadline to confirm our participation in the competition.

She also confirmed that the EBU agreed on the decision, explaining that the decision would be made after the Director-General position was filled at TRM. After this, the newly appointed Director-General will make the decision on whether Moldova should take part. The role has now been given to Ecaterina Cheptănaru, who had already served as Deputy Director-General of TRM for three months in 2025.

TRM was plunged into controversy after the most recent Contest in Vienna, due to the fallout of the Moldovan jury’s point distribution. Due to the backlash received by the broadcaster for giving Romania three points, previous Director-General Vlad Ţurcanu resigned as the head of the channel.

Moldova’s Eurovision journey

Moldova is relatively new to the Eurovision Song Contest, joining in 2005. Their debut entry, Zdob și Zdub, finished in 6th place, which had remained their highest scoring entry up until 2017. They were dethroned by returners Sunstroke Project and the song ‘Hey Mamma’, which finished in 3rd place. At the close of voting, Moldova received 374 points.

Satoshi would Moldova after it returned to the competition in 2026, with the song “Viva Moldova”. He would qualify for the final in fourth place – receiving 208 points in the first semifinal. In the Grand Final, Moldova would finish in eighth place, earning 226 points, of which 183 would come from the televote, with the remaining 43 points coming from the jury.
