Australian broadcaster SBS opens submissions

The broadcaster has confirmed that Australia’s entry will once again be selected internally, with the return of the SBS Song Portal allowed both established and emerging artists to express their interest.

How can artists apply?

The SBS Song Portal opened on 17th October and will remain open until 7th November 2026.

Artists and songwriters can apply in three categories:

  • Songwriter: Submit an original song for consideration, which may be matched with a different performer.
  • Artist-songwriters: Submit an original song they wish to perform themselves.
  • Performers: Register their interest in representing Australia without submitting a song.

SBS will make the final decision on both the artist and song, with submissions not guaranteeing selection.

What are the submission requirements?

SBS has outlined several eligibility requirements for prospective entries which align with those of the Eurovision Song Contest as a whole.

Songs must be original compositions lasting up to three minutes, and at least one member of the songwriting team must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. Entries must not have been publicly released of performed before 1st September 2026, and must include sung or spoken vocals.

The broadcaster has also explicitly prohibited the use of generative artificial intelligence in creating either the music or lyrics. Both published and unpublished songwriters are eligible to apply, and multiple submissions are permitted.

Applications can be made through the official SBS Song Portal with submissions closing at 23:59 AEDT on 7th November.

Australia internally selected Delta Goodrem to represent them in 2026 with the song “Eclipse”. She would qualify for the final and would ultimately finish in 4th place, Australia’s second-best result at the Contest. At the close of voting, Australia would 287 points, 165 coming from the jury with the remaining 122 points coming from the televote.
