Serbia has confirmed their participation in the 2027 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. Serbian national broadcaster RTS has confirmed the country will make their 19th appearance in the contest.
RTS confirms Eurovision participation
In an email to German Eurovision news outlet ESC Kompakt, RTS has officially confirmed that Serbia will participate in next year’s Eurovision, set to take place in Burgas, Bulgaria, from May 11th to 15th. The country had been speculated in recent weeks not to participate, as RTS has not yet launched the call for songs for its national selection Pesma Za Evroviziju. However, we now have confirmation that Serbia will go to Burgas next year, raising the number of participating countries to 33. Details regarding PZE will be revealed at a later date.
Serbia’s Eurovision journey
In 2007, Serbia made its debut as an independent country, having previously participated as part of Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro. There, they were represented by Marija Šerifović with “Molitva”, which managed to win the competition. Since their debut, Serbia has participated 16 times (13 of which, where they qualified for the Grand Final).
Pesma Za Evroviziju has been the selection show for Serbia’s Eurovision entry since 2022, with Konstrakta winning the inaugural edition. It replaced the iconic Beovizija music festival after RTS lost the rights to use their brand. The show takes place over one week, and consists of two semi-finals each containing a non fixed amount around 15 artists, of which 8 (or 9 in 2022) qualify to the final. Points are awarded via a 50/50 televote-jury split where points are converted to a 12-1 scale. At least 51% of the lyrics of all submitted songs must be in one of Serbia’s official languages. Metal band Lavina won PZE in 2026 and represented Serbia at Eurovision in Vienna with their song “Kraj mene”.
At this year’s competition, Serbia was able to qualify for the Grand Final, ultimately finishing in seventeenth place with 90 points in the final. Of these, 52 points came from the televote, whilst 38 came from the juries.
