Having already competed in Eesti Laul on three occasions, this week has been a big one for Estonian pop-metal singer OLLIE. Earlier this week, it was revealed the singer will be returning to the Eesti Laul stage for a fourth occasion, ahead of the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest. This week also sees OLLIE release his debut album, “If Demons Are Real, So Are Angels”.
About “If Demons Are Real, So Are Angels”
3-time Eesti Laul participant, and future 2027 entrant OLLIE has released his debut album “If Demons Are Real, So Are Angels”. The album reintroduces OLLIE as a pop-rock, metal and post punk artist to the world. The songs are at time emotional, at time energetic and always a genuine look inside OLLIE’s mind.
Personal highlights of the debut album from OLLIE include tracks “Headstock”, “Get High” and “Voices”. The new album also features all 3 previous Eesti Laul attempts from OLLIE, including a remaster of his 2024 entry “My Friend”. It also features a number of previously release singles, including “Drown” from earlier this year. His 2027 Eesti Laul song, “Sad Every Day”, does not feature on the album at present.
The album was self written and composed by OLLIE, and is released indecently under his own name. The Estonian singer is currently running a giveaway to celebrate the release of his debut album, with prizes including gig tickets, a signed guitar and even an in-personal, intimate, acoustic gig for the winner. Who is Ollie?
OLLIE is the stage name of Oliver Mazurtšak, born in Estonia in 1993. He is the son of Jüri Mazurtšak, the drummer from the Estonian bands 2 Quick Start and Night Star. His father participated in the Eurovision Song Contests of 1998 and 2002 as a member of the backing band, together with the Estonian act on stage. OLLIE has released a number of singles since his first appearance in Estonia’s Eesti Laul national final, but this week’s record marks the debut album release from the singer.
OLLIE’s Eesti Laul journey
Making his debut in Estonia’s Eesti Laul song festival in 2023, OLLIE has so far appeared in the contest on three occasions. His first entry into Eesti Laul came in the form of 2023’s “Venom”. The song became a huge fan favourite amongst rock and pop-metal fans, and progressed through the semi-finals and final of Eesti Laul 2023, reaching the superfinal round. After the close of the voting sequence, OLLIE’s “Venom” placed second behind eventual Eurovision participant Alika.
OLLIE returned to Eesti Laul the following year with the song “My Friend”. Once again, the song became a hit amongst rock eurofans, and found its way into the superfinal of the 2024 Estonia contest. Here, once again, OLLIE would finish in second place behind the eventual Eurovision act, 5miinust and Puuluup.
After a short hiatus from the Estonian national selection for Eurovision, OLLIE made a return to the contest earlier this year. He competed in the 2026 edition of Eesti Laul with the song “Slave”, once again making it all the way to the superfinal round. Here, he finished in third place behind NOËP and eventual Eurovision representatives Vanilla Ninja.
Earlier this week, it was announced that OLLIE would be returning to the Eesti Laul stage for a fourth attempt at representing the country in Eurovision. OLLIE will perform “Sad Every Day” in the Estonian contest on January 30th 2027.
