Austrian broadcaster ORF has announced that 11 acts have made the shortlist and will compete to represent Austria at the 2027 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Burgas.
Austria’s internal selection process
After last year’s national final, ORF has decided to select its entry through an internal selection. In the past, this has been Austria’s preferred method to select its Eurovision act. The broadcaster has announced that, for next year, 11 acts are currently in contention to represent Austria.
Since the summer, César Sampson, who represented Austria at Eurovision in 2018, and Peter Schreiber have been searching for artists to compete in the internal selection process. The 11 artists who have been shortlisted will present themselves at a live casting in November. They will be evaluated by a jury, but ORF will have the final say in who represents Austria in Bulgaria next year.
Austria’s Eurovision Journey
In 1957, Austria made their debut into the Eurovision Song Contest, where Bob Martin represented the landlocked nation with the song “Wohin, kleines Pony?”. At the close of voting, it managed to place 10th overall. Since their debut, Austria has participated 56 times (being in the final 49 times), and – before 2025 – had won the competition on two occasions in 1966 and 2014.
In 2026, Austria selected COSMÓ to represent the nation on home soil with “Tanzschein”. The host nation held a national final for the first time since their 2016 edition of “Wer Singt Für Österrich?”. Being the host country, Austria automatically qualified for the final – where COSMÓ would ultimately finish in 24th place with 6 points. One point came from the jury while another five came from the televote.
