🇸🇪 Omar Rudberg releases new EP “Mirage”

Former Melodifestivalen performer and Swedish-Venezuelan actor and musician Omar Rudberg is back with new music. The Young Royals star, and former member of boyband FO&O, has this week released his new four-track EP “Mirage”.

About “Mirage”

Omar Rudberg, who rose to prominence in Swedish media through the country’s Melodifestivalen national final, is back with a new EP. The four-track EP features new songs “Slow Dancer”, “Could’ve Been Love”, “Pop My Adrenaline”, as well as the titular track “Mirage”.

The EP opens with Latin-dance-pop song “Mirage”, a track full of energy and lust. Omar talks of things being too good to be true on “Mirage”, when letting someone get away with too much because of the love and lust you feel for them. The second track on the EP, “Slow Dancer”, is a slower, more romantic ballad, contrasting with the high-energy EP opener. “Could’ve Been Love” is an RnB / trap song, with a diss track vibe about what could have been. The final track on the EP, “Pop My Adrenaline” sees Omar lean into club-ready pop/dance. As a finished product, all four tracks show different sides of Omar, while maintaining his personality throughout.

The new tracks were composed and written by a team consisting of Omar Rudberg himself, as well as Martin Masarov, Elias Edman, Noak Hellsing, Karl Ivert and Amanda Kongshaug.

Who is Omar Rudberg?

Omar Rudberg is a Venezuelan-Swedish singer and actor. He spent his early years in Venezuela, before moving to Sweden with his family at the age of 6. In 2010, Omar took part in the fourth season of Talang, the Swedish version of Got Talent. Before beginning his solo music career in 2018, he was a member of Swedish pop boy band FO&O from 2013, until the group disbanded in 2017. As an actor, Omar is probably best known for his role as Simon Eriksson in the Swedish Netflix teen drama Young Royals. In 2023, following the success of Young Royals globally, Omar was given the Breakout Musical Artist award at the Queerties. He was awarded the Swedish Song of the Year, and Male Artist of the Year at the Rockbjörnen 2025 awards show for his single “I’m not a boy”.

Omar’s Melodifestivalen journey – FO&O

Omar first made an appearance in Sweden’s national selection for Eurovision, Melodifestivalen, whilst a member of pop group FO&O. The band, made up of Omar Rudberg, Felix Sandman and Oscar Enestad entered the 2017 Melfest selection with their song “Gotta Thing About You”. After performing in the third heat, FO&O made it through to the Andra Chansen round, where they earned a spot in the 2017 Mello Final. In the Final, “Gotta Thing About You” placed eleventh.

Omar’s Melodifestivalen journey as a solo performer

After FO&O split in 2017, all three members of the group went on to make Melfest appearances as soloists. First, in 2018, Felix Sandman made his debut with “Every Single Day”. The following year, both Oscar and Omar entered the 2019 Melfest selection. Oscar, with the song “I Love It”, and Omar with “Om om och om igen”. Performing in the third hear of Mello 2019, Omar was unable to make it to the final with “Om om och om igen”.

Several years later, in 2022, Omar made his return to the Swedish national final for Eurovision with the song “Moving Like That”. He performed the uptempo Latin infused pop track in the first of the 2022 Mello heats, but was unable to progress further. Although he hasn’t performed in Melodifestivalen recent years, Omar remains a huge fan of the show. In 2025, he made an appearance at the Melodifestivalen 2025 grand final afterparty in Stockholm, just days after completing his European tour, and spent time celebrating with performers and songwriters. In recent interviews, he has refused to rule out a potential return to the Mello stage, declaring his love for the contest.
