Today, we saw rehearsals from the first seven acts to perform in semi-final one at Eurovision 2021! Lithuania, Slovenia, Russia, Sweden, North Macedonia and Ireland all took to the stage in Rotterdam, while we were also treated to a behind-the-scenes clip of Montaigne preparing her live on tape performance.
What did we think about today’s events so far?
Who were our highlights of today?
All three of us unanimously chose Manizha as our favourite performance of the day! Her kooky, creative, passionate performance wowed us all.
What was our lowlight of today?
Both Rosie and Rory cited North Macedonia as their lowest point of today, with its slightly cluttered staging detracting from Vasil’s excellent vocals (though Jazzi disagreed!). Jazzi struggled to connect with Ana Soklič from Slovenia. Rory also expressed his concern about Ireland’s first rehearsal, worrying that it might need a bit more time to come together and achieve the story it wants to tell.
What were our favourite moments of the day?
Rosie’s highlight was hearing Vaidotas from The Roop singing You Are So Beautiful To Me between rehearsals for Discoteque. Jazzi’s best moments were Manizha and Tusse’s press conferences, and the passion and humour both brought to the stage there. In particular, she liked how Tusse mentioned that doing Eurovision is an excuse not to do his homework! Rory cited Australia’s 90 seconds of spotlight time as his favourite.
