The seventh act rehearsing today is Azerbaijan, who will be represented by Efendi in this year’s competition with her entry ‘Mata Hari’
What did we think of the rehearsal?
it starts with all Gold lighting Efendi has 4 dancers with her, they are all wearing fully black. Efendi is vocally on point throughout the performance. The lighting does become more colourful in the chorus and 2nd verse introducing pink and turquoise. This performance feels very rich and expensive. Toward the end of the performance they all stand in a line moving their arms in different directions. The dancing felt like they were holding back but this is okay as this is a first rehearsal.
Towards the end the gold ball on the backdrop turns into fire rolling around on the drop and eventually turns into an eye at the end.
Now what did our team think of Azerbaijan’s rehearsal?
Jazzi: Any concerns I had about this qualifying have now gone I think this will easily make it. Efendi seems confident in her performance I think the backdrops in this are stunning and some of the best we have seen so far. This will make the final however I am unsure once there if it will make any waves but this is something Azerbaijan can be proud of. Efendi is vocally on point throughout. In the second run through the dancers were a lot slicker. I feel any issues that any concerns on Efendi’s stage presence from pre performances have been sorted she seems happy and confident on the stage.
Rosie: Azerbaijan have gone a great job translating the music video to the Eurovision stage with a beautiful blue, gold and pink colour palette. Efendi gives a strong performance, and manages to control her vocal well alongside the choreography. She’s certainly assuaged any concerns about her performance, and I expect this will do well in Rotterdam. There’s no surprises here, or anything unexpected – just Azerbaijan doing what they do best on the Eurovision stage.
