Up next today is Latvia, who are being represented by Samanta Tina. Samanta Tina will be singing the song ‘The Moon Is Rising’ in this year’s competition.
What did we think of Latvia’s rehearsal?
There is alot of homage paid to Samanta’s performance of ‘Still Breathing’ in Supernova last year. Samanta is in a ll green and is joined by three backing dancers, these dancers are in full body costumes and wearing visors similar to the ones worn at super nova last year just instead of red they were all in green. The backdrop was gold, and the LED almost gave me queen bee vibes! Samanta really owned it on stage as the queen bee! She was full of confidence on stage.
Towards the end of the song we do see flashes of pink strobelights overall the gold, the green and the pink all make this feel very rich and grand, while remaining modern at the same time.
What did we make of Latvia’s rehearsal?
Rory: This is an incredibly striking performance from Latvia, and it’s great to see they’ve got a lot of variety in the colour scheme – though mostly focusing on green and gold with hints of pink. It’s an interesting dress choice, however, and it might not be the best outfit for her to dance in – if that’s what she wants to do. Love the backing singers still having the visors to have a nod to last year! Overall, it needs a little tweaking, but it otherwise looks solid.
Jazzi: I enjoyed this! Samanta owned the stage, I do feel that while Samanta sounded fine that there may of been some mixing issues as she sounded a tad quiet at times and almost over powered by the backing track! She owned the stage like the queen she is. I would love to still see this make the final although I feel she could miss the cut simply as this semi is so strong! I really like the little homages paid to ‘Still Breathing’ from last year, it feels they have taken what they had last year and elevated it. It shows that Latvia went away last year and really perfected their craft and used their time effectively.
Rosie: What a fun rehearsal from Latvia, with Samanta’s vocals as the absolute star of the show! She sounds fantastic live, and hits every one of those notes (even in chest voice!) The green and gold colour scheme works very nicely and stands out amongst this year’s entries. I do feel like the message of female empowerment is lost a little from the music video, but ultimately I don’t think this staging harms Latvia’s chances too much. I would really like to see this in the final, and don’t think that’s an unachievable goal!
