๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท TES Reviews: Sublime Simplicity for Barbara Pravi

Up first today is France, who are being represented by Barbara Pravi. Barbara will be singing the song ‘Voila’ in this year’s competition.

What did we make of France’s rehearsal?

France have taken what they had at the National final and built on it, the whole stage is black with a few white spotlights shining on Barbara, in the second chorus there is a nice effect of blackbirds flying away on the LED floor , towards the end of the song the camera pans in and out around Barbara and you get and almost jerking motion but it works for the way she is moving her arms around. Barbara sounds note perfect throughout the run through. This is very much still in contention to win the whole thing.

Now, what does the team make of Franceโ€™s rehearsal?

Rory: The staging for this is essentially the same as it was for Eurovision – C’est Vous Qui Decidez, but that’s not a bad thing. If anything, have refined that national final performance into a package that is ready to go for the final. Barbara’s vocals are absolutely stunning and I cannot say anything bad about them. The only thing I could recommended tweaking is the hand camera in the final chorus, but that is only fine-tuning. This is one of the favourites and it is ENTIRELY justified.

Jazzi: France didn’t fix what wasn’t broken and I am glad about that, this is very much still in contention to win the contest on the 22nd. Barbara is note perfect throughout the entire run. I really like the effect on the LED floor in the chorus it adds to the darkness of this performance. They have kept it simple and that is all France really had to do. I really like at the end when Barbara throws her hands up it commands your attention.

Rosie: Barbara is a consummate performer, and watching her just now truly took my breath away. This was technical, beautiful, emotional, and I couldn’t take my eyes off her. Her rubato was fantastic, and she told the story of the song in a way that was compelling. I’m still not sure about the sped-up camera at the end of the song, and the background lighting at this point doesn’t quite work with the spotlight effect from the rest of the song, but these are minor problems at most. France have done exactly what they need to do for this to do well.
