As we get closer to the end of September, more and more countries are confirming their intention to participate in next year’s competition. The next country to confirm they will be present in Italy is Georgia which has confirmed to ESCToday that they will be participating for the 14th time.
Selection method still to be confirmed
Alongside the confirmation that they will be participating in Italy, GPB is yet to reveal how they will be selecting their next Eurovision representative. Since their debut in the competition, they have used various selection methods in selecting their entry. Since 2019, Georgia has used Georgian Idol to select its representative with Oto Nemsadze representing them in Tel Aviv, and Tornike Kipiani in 2021 (after being selected to represent them in 2020).
Georgia’s Eurovision Journey
In 2007, Georgia made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest with Sopho Khalvashi and the song “Visionary Dream”, which placed 8th in the competition. Since then, Georgia has participated in the competition 13 times (7 of which where they qualified for the Grand Final).
Their recent participation saw them being represented by Tornike Kipiani in Rotterdam, where he participated with his self-penned entry “You”. During his participation, he managed to place 16th in the semi-final after receiving 16 points from the Jury and Televoters.
