Today, it was announced that former Armenian Eurovision participant Hayko – real name Hayk Hakobyan – passed away at the age of 48.
Habokyan was admitted to the hospital earlier this month with COVID-19 and was said to be in a “grave condition” on the 21st of September.
The singer represented Armenia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007, held in Helsinki, Finland. Hayko was the second ever participant for Armenia in the Contest, after having made their début the year before in Athens.
Hayko finished in 8th place at the close of voting with his song “Anytime You Need”. At the time, Hayko’s performance equaled their previous best score with Andre with “Without Your Love”.
Following his appearance at Eurovision, Hayko would go on to win the Armenian Composer of the Year Award in 2007, 2010, and 2011, writing scores for other films in Armenia.
The team at That Eurovision Site would like to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to Hayko’s family and friends.
