After announcing last month that Slovenia will be participating in the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest, RTVSLO has opened submissions for EMA and EMA Freš 2022. The announcement also sees the return of EMA Freš for 2022, which will be held for a second time.
EMA Freš to select four entries for EMA
Music performers under the age of 30, and have released a maximum of 3 songs, will first compete in EMA Freš. 24 songs will compete, and after four weeks of online pre-selection, 14 will remain. The remaining 14 newcomers will then compete for the 4 spots in EMA 2022. This part of the selection is set to conclude in January.
An expanded EMA will take place in 2022
EMA 2022 will consist of two Semi-Finals and a Grand-Final. Each Semi-Final will consist of 8 established artists and 2 of the 4 winners of EMA Freš. The jury and the audience would then select 6 finalists from each semi-final to advance to the Grand Final.
In the Grand Final, 12 participants will then compete to be Slovenia’s Eurovision 2022 representative will be selected via a Jury and Televote (in a 50:50 ratio).
Submissions are open until the 22nd November 2021

Slovenia’s Eurovision Journey
In 1993, Slovenia made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest with 1X Band and the song “Tih deževen dan”, which placed 22nd. Since their debut, they have participated 26 times (15 of which, where they qualified for the Grand Final.)
Slovenia’s recent Eurovision participation, saw them being represented by Ana Soklič, who represented them with the song “Amen”, which placed 13th in the first semi-final receiving 44 points from the jury and televoters.
