Latvian broadcaster LTV has opened the submission window for Supernova 2022, and songs can be sent in until December 7th. This follows news from late August that Latvia’s National Final would return. Besides opening the submission process, LTV also announced the rules and regulations for Supernova. The winner of Supernova 2022 will get to represent Latvia at the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest in Turin.
What we know about Supernova 2022
Songs can be submitted until December 7th. Foreign songwriters are permitted, as long as they are no more than one-third of the writing team. A jury consisting of music professionals will then judge the songs, and announce who has been selected for Supernova. The final will be held in February. How voting will work will be announced in January.
Latvia’s Eurovision Journey
Latvia made their Eurovision debut in 2000, finishing 3rd with “My Star” by Brainstorm. They have performed at every contest since and managed to win in 2002. Marie N sang “I Wanna,” scoring 176 points and bringing Eurovision to Riga in the process. Latvia also managed to finish in the top 10 two more times, in 2005 and 2015. Latvia’s most recent entry on the Eurovision stage was Samanta Tīna, who performed “The Moon Is Rising.” The song failed to qualify, finishing 17th in its semi-final.
