Everything we know about ESCZ 2022

Once again, ESCZ is taking place as an online-only national final, but with some significant changes. Instead of using music videos, all acts will use a live-on-tape performance recorded in a TV studio. There also have been some changes to the selection process for the songs. The pre-selection jury has been strengthened with an American composer and a European producer/performer. The winning song will be decided through a jury and a public vote, with the jury contributing 50% of the score, whilst Czech and international audiences get 25% each. With the selection taking place in December, the winner will have a lot of time to prepare for Eurovision, which will take place in Turin in May.

Czech Republic’s Eurovision Journey

The Czech Republic first appeared on the Eurovision stage in 2007. Their entry, Kabát with the song “Malá Dáma,” finished 28th in the semi-final. After not qualifying three years in a row, the Czech Republic withdrew from the contest until 2015. They first appeared in a Eurovision final in 2016, with “I Stand” being sang by Gabriel Gunčíková. Their best result to date was in 2018, with Mikolas Josef’s performance of “Lie to Me” scoring 281 points and finishing 6th. The Czech Republic’s most recent entry was “Omaga” by Benny Cristo, who finished 15th in his semi-final with 23 points.
