🇵🇹 Festival da Canção 2022 entries to be revealed on January 21st

After teasing information about its upcoming national selection, we finally know when all 20 Festival da Canção 2022 entries will be revealed. On January 21st, we will hear the song which will represent Portugal in Turin in May.

All twenty Festival da Canção 2022 entries will be released on January 21st, one week from today (January 14th). This is the first major news Portuguese broadcaster RTP has released since the competing songwriters were revealed in November. The broadcaster revealed the news in an Instagram post, using a new graphic design compared to the previous year.

All 20 competing entrants in Portugal’s national selection will perform their entries live in March. RTP’s Lisbon studios will host the two semi-finals on March 5th and 7th. After that, the Grand Final will take place on March 12th – though the exact location of the final is still to be announced.

Portugal’s history at Eurovision

Portugal debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest with António Calvário’s “Oração” in 1964. Since then, Portugal has participated in the competition 52 times – appearing the final 43 times. Their only win in the competition came in 2017 with Salvador Sobral, performing his heart-wrenching song “Amar Pelos Dois”. Portugal’s most recent participation was with The Black Mamba with the song “Love Is On My Side” – the first song Portugal sent in the English language. The Black Mamba managed to qualify for the Grand Final finishing 12th, after receiving 153 points from the jury and the televote.
