As the final of Romania’s Eurovision selection for 2022 nears, broadcaster TVR revealed more details of the interval acts on March 5th.

Checking out the competition

In total, seven competing artists in this year’s Eurovision are due to perform at the final of Selecția Națională. The seven artists are:

  • Ronela Hajati (Albania)
  • Intelligent Music Project (Bulgaria)
  • We Are DOMI (Czechia)
  • Stefan (Estonia)
  • Zdob și Zdub & Frații Advahov (Moldova)
  • Vladana (Montenegro)
  • Andrea (North Macedonia)

Of the other contests, only Montenegro’s song has yet to be revealed to the public. In addition to this, revamped versions of Albania and North Macedonia’s songs will be released in time for the final next Saturday.

“Music unites us”

Speaking about the invitations to the competing artists, Iuliana Marciuc – project manager for Selecția Națională said it was an honour to have so many artists visit Romania.

On Saturday, for a few hours, Bucharest will be the capital of the European song. Seven Eurovision 2022 contestants will sing on the same stage, live on TVR, and at the end of the evening, we will find out the name of the eighth, the representative of our country.

It was a challenge to make this line-up for the final, considering the situation in Ukraine, but I am glad that we succeeded and we bring the magic of Eurovision closer to the Romanian fans. At such a difficult time for Europe, the finalists of Selecția Națională and Eurovision in these countries will remind us that music unites us and will send a message for peace.

Ten songs remain in contention to represent Romania at Eurovision 2022 in Turin. The ten songs made it through a tough online vote and a live televised semi-final to reach the final stage. The final will be transmitted on March 5th across TVR channels and on the broadcaster’s Youtube channel.

Romania’s Eurovision journey

Romania joined the Eurovision family in the Eastern wave of enlargement, making their debut in 1994. Their entry – Dan Bittman’s “Dincolo de nori” – finished in 21st place with a total of 14 points. At the introduction of semi-finals, Romania found their stride and were present in every Eurovision final until 2018. Romania’s best result is third place, scored twice in 2005 and 2010 respectively.

In 2021, Romania was represented by Roxen, who had been internally selected in 2020 prior to the Contest’s cancellation. Roxen performed her song – “Amnesia” – at the first semi-final in Rotterdam. However, unfortunately Romania failed to qualify for the final. At the close of voting, Romania finished 12th in a field of 16, scoring 85 points.
