Selecția Națională 2022 Hosts and Interval acts

Romania rolled out the red carpet for the final of Selecția Națională 2022. Eda Marcus and Aurelian Temișan led the programme, broadcast in Bucharest. In addition, Bogdan Stănescu and Ilinca Băcilă, who represented Romania in 2017, helped to deliver the artist’s impressions from the green room.

The jury for tonight was made up of Alexandra Ungureanu, Ozana Barabancea, Randi, Cristian Faur and Adrian Romcescu. Their points decided five sixths of the final result, with the remaining sixth coming from the public.

As well as the star-studded line-up for the hosts, the interval acts involved in the final of Selecția Națională were also steeped in Eurovision history. After performing in the German national selection yesterday, Ukrainian Eurovision champion Jamala performed her winning song ‘1944’ as a guest of honour. Other artists competing in the Contest this year also performed including:

  • Ronela Hajati (Albania)
  • Intelligent Music Project (Bulgaria)
  • We Are DOMI (Czechia)
  • Stefan (Estonia)
  • Zdob si Zdub (Moldova)
  • Vladana (Montenegro)
  • Andrea (North Macedonia)

In honour of Jamala’s performance and in solidarity with the Ukrainian people, all the money raised by televoting in the show will be donated to the Ukrainian resistance movement.

Romania’s Eurovision journey

Romania joined the Eurovision family in the Eastern wave of enlargement, making their debut in 1994. Their entry – Dan Bittman’s “Dincolo de nori” – finished in 21st place with a total of 14 points. At the introduction of semi-finals, Romania found their stride and were present in every Eurovision final until 2018. Romania’s best result is third place, scored twice in 2005 and 2010 respectively.

In 2021, Romania was represented by Roxen, who had been internally selected in 2020 prior to the Contest’s cancellation. Roxen performed her song – “Amnesia” – at the first semi-final in Rotterdam. However, unfortunately Romania failed to qualify for the final. At the close of voting, Romania finished 12th in a field of 16, scoring 85 points.
