Upon the promotion of his latest single “Het Komt Wel Goed” (It Will Be Good), The Voice NL 2021 winner Dany has revealed that he will submit an entry to try and represent The Netherlands at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest.
Mentored by a Eurovision alumni on The Voice NL
Danny aka Dani van Velthoven is mostly known for participating in the 11th season of The Voice NL, during his performance of “Hallelujiah”; Netheralnds’ Eurovision 2013 representative Anouk was among the coaches that turned their chair around and mentored Dany to a win. During his stint in the competition, he has covered Adele, Stormae, Emeli Sande, and even Eurovision 2019 Duncan Laurence.
Dany among the final four to represent the Netherlands in 2022
Whilst speaking on the radio program De Zaterdagochtend on RTV Purmerend, Dany revealed that he was approached by AVROTROS, and was among the final four shortlisted; where S10 was eventually selected to represent The Netherlands with “De Deipte”.
During the interview, Dany mentioned that it is his dream to do Eurovision, but will not focus on it. He mentioned that he wants to “fix my team and get my career in order”.
Submissions for Netherlands’ Eurovision 2023 search continue
As we previously reported, AVROTROS opened submissions in the search for its Eurovision 2023 representative and will close on the 31st of August 2022.
The Netherlands’ Eurovision Journey
The Netherlands is one of the founding countries of the ESC, having performed the very first song ever on the Eurovision stage back in 1956. While the result of “De Vogels van Holland” is unknown, the Netherlands have clocked 5 wins, with their most recent in 2019. However the Netherlands are also known to have had the longest ever non qualification streak in the semi-final era – they missed out on the final a whopping 8 times between 2005-2012. In 2022 S10 represented The Netherlands with her song “De diepte”. S10 placed 11th in the Eurovision 2022 Grand Final after receiving a total of 171 points.
