🇳🇱 Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper to represent The Netherlands in the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest

Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS has revealed that Dion Cooper and Mia Nicola will be representing The Netherlands in the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool.

The Dutch Eurovision 2023 act was selected internally

The entry that Mia and Dion will sing for Liverpool were brought up when they were brough together with Eurovision 2019 winner Duncan Laurence alongside Jordan Garfield, with the selection committe unanimously agreeing to the selected entry. At the time of writing, further information about the entry will be revealed in due course.

This year’s selection committee consisted of five professionals all from different fields in the Dutch entertainment industry. Three have been on the committee before while there are also two newcomers. The people helping to choose the Dutch entry for Eurovision 2023 are:

• Eric Van Stade (AVROTROS director)
• Cornald Maas (Eurovision commentator and expert)
• Jan Smit (Eurovision commentator and 2021 host)
• Sander Latinga (Radio DJ)
• Carolien Borgers (AVROTROS DJ)
• Hila Noorzai (former radio DJ and tv presenter)

The Netherlands’ Eurovision journey

The Netherlands is one of the founding countries of the ESC, having performed the very first song ever on the Eurovision stage back in 1956. While the result of “De Vogels van Holland” is unknown, the Netherlands have clocked 5 wins, with their most recent in 2019. However the Netherlands are also known to have had the longest ever non qualification streak in the Semi final era- they missed out on the final a whopping 8 times between 2005-2012. The most recent Dutch entry to the Contest was in 2022, when S10 represented the nation with “De Diepte” – the first song in Dutch in over 12 years. The Netherlands qualified for the final, where it reached 11th place, with 171 points from the juries and televoters.
