๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ฟ Eldar Gasimov joins Azerbaijani Eurovision delegation

Azerbaijan is continuing its preparations for its participation in Eurovision 2023. However, a familiar face is rejoining the delegation – Eurovision winner Eldar Gasimov.

Eldar Gasimov returns in a ‘professional sense’

On a post on Instagram, Eldar – who won Eurovision in 2011 as part of Ell & Nikki – said he was to return to the Contest. However, he would not be a participant; rather to return ‘in a professional sense’.

In the post, Eldar says that he has been tied to Eurovision in many ways from his initial participation. Now, Eldar Gasimov will form part of the delegation as the official music producer for the selected song. He also added that he was invited to become the music producer from broadcaster ฤฐctimai Television.

It comes as Azerbaijan holds an open call to help find its act for Eurovision 2023. Currently, there is a submissions window from ฤฐctimai Television for interested singers to submit their interest. The window will close on December 31st. From there, the delegation will work on their entry and present their competing song in the New Year.

Azerbaijan’s Eurovision journey

Azerbaijan is a powerhouse in Eurovision, first debuting in 2008 with the song “Day After Day” by Elnur & Samir, finishing 8th. The country has since gone on to achieve five top 5 performances, including one win in 2011.

Azerbaijan has a near perfect qualification record, only failing to make the final in 2018, and is known for its impressive on-stage performances. In 2022, they were represented by Nadir Rustamli, who received 106 points and finished 16th with his song “Fade to Black”.
