Norway is continuing their preparations for MGP 2023. As artists prep for Delfinale 2 on Saturday 21 January, Ben speaks to Bjørn Olav Edvardsen. He is vying to represent Norway in Liverpool with his song “Turn off My Heart”.

Together, Bjørn and Ben talk about the inspiration behind his song “Turn off My Heart.” They also talk about his experience in Norwegian Idol, his travels when he was younger, and the hints about his staging that he has been dropping the past month.

About Bjørn

Bjørn Olav Edvardsen is a singer, songwriter, and actor located in Nord-Odal. He first rose to prominence when he placed 3rd in Norwegian Idol in 2005. Afterwards, he has appeared on other shows such as The Voice Norway and has expanded further into theater playing the titular character in The Wiz. While this is his first time competing as an artist in MGP, he has helped write for past songs including fan-favorite “I Can’t Escape” performed by Imerika in MGP 2021. On top of that, he even lent his songwriting skills on Umami Tsunami’s song “Geronimo” which just qualified for the MGP final last Saturday, 14 January. He hopes to join them with his song “Turn off My Heart.”

Norway’s Eurovision Journey

The Scandinavian nation made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1960, with Nora Brockstedt and the song “Voi Voi”, which placed 4th. Since their debut, they have participated 60 times, and made the grand final 57 of these. In addition, Norway has won the competition three times (1985, 1995, and 2009).

Norway’s latest Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Subwoolfer with the song “Give That Wolf a Banana”. During their participation, Norway placed 10th in the grand final, receiving 182 points from the jury and televoters.
